Photos and images
Sized for every screen, and never cropped where it matters.
A photo in a folder becomes a photo page: titled by its file name, dated by when it was taken, and captioned by its description in Drive. See Photos.
Names, dates and captions
| The file | On the site |
| Black sand.jpg | Titled Black sand, dated by the camera |
| IMG_4012.jpg | No title (a camera's name means nothing); dated by the camera |
| 1968-12-24 Earthrise.jpg | Titled Earthrise, dated 24 December 1968 |
| A description in Drive | The caption under the photo |
Photos straight from an iPhone (HEIC) work as they are, as do JPEG, PNG and WebP.
Five sizes
Every image, in a photo or a document, is made in five widths of WebP, from 480 to 2400 pixels. A phone downloads a small one, a large screen a sharp one, and nobody downloads the original. The camera's data, location included, stays out of them.
Photos and drawings
In a card, a photo fills the frame. A drawing, diagram or screenshot is recognised by its few flat colours and fitted instead, on its own background colour, so nothing is cut off. Compare the diagram on Start here with the photos here.
